Kat is not your usual model. For one, she’s not (professionally) even though she has the face to be one. She also doesn’t have the typical “model” body as stereotyped by the industry, and I mean that in every good way.
I’ve always been a fan of strong athletic women. I personally find muscles sexier than just the waify skin and bones look, not to mention it being the healthier option. We managed to shoot semi-regularly through out the years, and I’ve seen Kat evolve into a Wonder Woman specimen ever since she got serious with Crossfit and power lifting. I also got to shoot pre-Crossfit days so there was huge jump on her look since. It’s always a boon shooting her because of that unique combination of a pretty face with a body that could easily intimidate regular dudes.
For this kind of look, I was looking at some pegs from Ring Magazine, basically the top-lit setup they used a lot on boxing covers. I didn’t replicate it on point, but just wanted to get the gist of the look and feel by doing that “interrogation” room lighting. Of course I used some fail-safe beauty lighting on some images to retain the femininity. Though I would have to say, her back figure is something else. With the corn row braids, she somehow gives off the Ronda Rousey vibe too. Time to do martial arts Kat?
